Stripe Just Ended the Visa vs Mastercard Agent Pay War
Transcript
Stripe just shipped Shared Payment Tokens, and it's the most practical agentic commerce update to drop this month. Here's the problem it solves. Visa and Mastercard both launched competing agent payment specs this quarter. To accept agent-initiated payments from both networks, you'd need two separate integrations. Stripe absorbed that complexity into one token primitive — a single SPT works for Mastercard Agent Pay and Visa Intelligent Commerce simultaneously. The integration point is your existing Stripe checkout. Merchants on Wix, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and Squarespace can enable SPTs through a configuration update. Your checkout starts accepting purchases from AI agents running on GPT, Claude, or any LLM with tool calls. You don't need to pick a side in the Visa versus Mastercard agentic race. Stripe picked both. Integration guide is live in Stripe docs — waitlist for early access is open now. Link in bio. Save this.
