Stop Monthly Subscriptions — Charge Per Token With Stripe
Transcript
Monthly subscriptions made sense before AI. They don't make sense when your product's cost is tokens. Stripe just shipped streaming payments — charge exactly when a token is generated. Here's the integration. Every time your model emits a token, a micropayment fires: StreamPayment context manager — customer ID, rate 0.00002 dollars per token. For each token in llm.generate — stream.emit_token. Payment settles automatically when the stream closes. No invoice at month end. No revenue recognition complexity. The customer pays as tokens flow, and you get paid the moment your model works. Stripe built this on Metronome for metering and Tempo's blockchain for settlement. It supports stablecoins and fiat. If you're charging for AI inference with a flat monthly subscription in 2026, you're leaving margin on the table for every low-usage customer, and you're losing money on every heavy user. This is the architecture to fix both. Link in bio.
